A DIY Mover

When it comes time to move, it’s easy to overlook a few key points that may make your move smoother in the long run. Mistakes are easy to make when you’re busy, it’s the holidays, or you are stressed, so make sure you don’t fall victim to these easy-to-make mistakes when you’re making your next big move!

#1 Booking too late or taking too long to book

It sounds funny, because you likely want to take your time researching moving companies, but slots can fill up fast, especially around the holiday season (as well as weekends). Book your time as far ahead in advance as you can so you can ensure that you have a mover when you need it. Remember, you can always cancel your booking.

#2 Forgetting to pack an open-first essentials box

An open-first essentials box is great when you’re just too tired from a move to unpack and just want to take a bit of a break. Make sure you pack one and know where it is when you get to your new home!

#3 Packing too heavy

If you’re planning to move yourself, one mistake that people often make is packing boxes too heavy. That means not putting every hardcover book in one box! You don’t want to blow out your back during a move, so make sure to distribute your heavier items evenly across boxes so you don’t tax yourself too much.

#4 Not taking care of loose items

We store many things at our homes that we may not need when we’re moving. Take for instance gardening items, old paint, scraps of lumber, and other miscellaneous items. Consider where you’re moving, and, if you can donate or throw out old items instead of lugging them around from house to house.

#5 Not asking for help

Trying to pack up a home, especially a large one, alone can be tricky, and even harder can be getting out large items like furniture. Ask for help, or if you can, hire help like Central Lakes Region Movers to help you pack and move your items.
