Moving requires taking in a lot of considerations. The first is where you’re moving to, how far away it is, and what you want to bring. After you’ve gone through donating or throwing out everything you don’t want, you may start the daunting practice of packaging up all of your items. But, maybe not… Maybe you’ve hired movers to help you pack, or perhaps just to move your things.

A question we get asked often is if it’s really worth it to hire professional movers to help you move your things. The answer is definitely YES! Think about all of the things you don’t need to consider: how many people to have at your house to lift the couch or the armoire, what kind of truck you need, how many trips you’ll need to make, how you can keep grandma’s antique piano safe while it rides in the truck, and what happens if something gets damaged or broken during the move. We do all of that for you – and we have tons of experience moving, so we know how to do it right the first time. Plus, we’re insured in case of damage or breakage – something you don’t have for yourself.

Imagine taking all of that stress out of your move. That might just be worth it alone!

So how much does it cost?

We can’t give you an exact number because of the variety of differences between one move and the next. But here are some number estimates according to MyMovingReviews.com:

The average cost for an interstate move is around $4,300, and an intrastate (in state) move is $2,300, so roughly about $200 per mover for 4 movers. Before you panic and go DIY, this number is based on a 7,400 pound move. The more you have to move, the more it will cost. The rough idea is that it costs $25 per hour per mover. MyMovingReviews.com estimates:

  • Studio apartment: 2 professional movers working for 3-5 hours at an average of $25 each per hour = $150-$250 for completing the entire moving job.
  • 2-bedroom apartment: 3 local movers working for 5-7 hours at an average of $25 each per hour = $375-$525 to get the job done.
  • 3-bedroom house: 4 professional local movers working for 7-10 hours at an average of $25 each per hour = $700-$1000 to complete the house move.
  • Larger homes: the estimated local moving costs for larger homes (5,000 square feet and up) rise sharply and can reach values around $1500-$2000, and even more.”

There are more factors that can change how much a move costs, such as how many items, where they’re being moved, and how many movers must come to help.
