Snow-Covered Home

Snow-Covered HomeThe holidays are a daunting time to do many things. Sometimes you may be tasked with moving, whether you’ve bought a house or you need to help someone else move. It can be difficult to find the time (or the money) to move during the holidays, but when it happens, it happens. We’ve got some more tips to help you survive your holiday move.

Plan in Advance & Stay Organized

Planning is everything. Knowing when you’re going to move and planning around that big event is important. Mark down when you’re moving, and set aside times to unpack boxes — sooner rather than later if you’re hosting. A big part of this will be staying organized while packing. We’ve got some tips for helping you stay organized while moving, so make sure you check out those great ideas.

Use a Storage Container

Utilizing a service like a POD or otherwise can help take some of the stress off of your move during the holidays. This way, you’re not trucking all of your items into a truck. Instead, you’re putting them in a container at your leisure and then having the container moved. This can help if you’re on a particularly tight time crunch and can’t dedicate just one day to a move. Spreading it out across multiple days or weeks can help de-stress your holiday move.

Keep the Kids in Mind

If you have children, they won’t understand why they can’t have everything they usually have for the holidays such as lights on the house or possibly even the holidays being moved or postponed. Make sure you keep them in mind while you’re moving. Maybe consider moving your holiday up or making sure that you haven’t forgotten gifts for them after the move is completed.

Instead of participating in holiday traditions at home (since most of your time will be spent organizing and packing up), try instead taking your kids out for different holiday traditions. If you don’t have the time to put lights up on your home, take your kids for a drive and look at some of the over-board light displays in town. Don’t know where they are? Join up with your local Facebook group and ask there!

Other holiday fun that isn’t at home can be tree lightings, tree festivals, holiday strolls, Santa’s mall or department store visits, or even other activities such as visiting the zoo.
